Chapter 1
The first step towards our personal development – THINK POSITIVELY
You can’t lead a cavalry charge if you think you look funny on the horse. --JOHN PEERS
Often
we come across situations in life that seem like a disaster. It can be related
to our love life, career, family, hobbies or simply daily little chores. When
these things happen, we are usually taken over by sorrow or sadness.
On
other occasions, we may feel angered and bury ourselves in negative emotions
that really does no good in the long run.
How
to overcome this in the best possible way?
We
must learn to use positive thinking to our advantage at all
times. Whenever these things occur, we should try to see the lesson
that can be taken out of the situation, and then proceed with our life.
Remind
yourself the situations and problems are temporary, and it will not last forever.
Just keep going…Difficult roads can lead to beautiful destinations
Believe good things are
on the way
Professional life:
With my Job, hurdles, problems and difficulties used to be my perpetual partners. Not knowing or understanding how some things work, or how to solve a problem used to slowly kill me, however with time I learned to deal with this.
With my Job, hurdles, problems and difficulties used to be my perpetual partners. Not knowing or understanding how some things work, or how to solve a problem used to slowly kill me, however with time I learned to deal with this.
One simple technique helped me, I changed my thinking regarding
difficulties at work and it changed my work life.
Now I am able to be more positive at work, I simply came to the
realization that learning is an ongoing process.
Ideally, it should last your whole life.
By accepting difficulties at my job, I have become more positive,
motivated and even better at problem-solving.
Personal Life: If you have just
broken up with your loved one, see it as an opportunity to make yourself
better. Note down all the mistakes that you have made in this relationship in
order not to repeat them again, and then go on improving yourself while you
have the opportunity.
In a matter of time, you will be in a relationship again. So instead of
spending days sobbing, go and make yourself
great!
Always do your best, but never beat up yourself for things that are
outside of your control.

Chapter 2
If
you wish to bring some change in your world you need to - ACT POWERFUL.
Success in life comes not from holding a good hand, but in playing a poor hand well -- WARREN G. LESTER
Doing so will require you to demonstrate fearlessness and a considerable amount of self-confidence. Take risks even if you are afraid, you should act as though you aren't.
Power works in a
cycle.
When others view you as being powerful, they will naturally treat you
like you are a powerful person, even to the extent of granting you the power you
didn't have before.
You need to be physically fit and mentally strong, this
will give you a very powerful presence. Invest in yourself, meditate, read, eat
healthy food, exercise, spend time in nature, family and friends, and remember
your body is a temple.
Also, relax and
reconnect with the people and things that are important to you.
Forty thousand wishes won’t fill your bucket with fishes. -- FISHERMAN’S SAYINGS
Chapter 3
To become an influencer
one has to – ‘COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY.’
Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you would have preferred to talk. --DOUG LARSON
No matter your
age, background, or experience, effective communication is a skill than can be developed.
In return, it will help you get things done the way you want it to be done.
At the workplace,
open meetings, one to one conservations, emails or training. These are effective
ways to communicate with employees.
Example – Once at my workplace our management
decided to take a 10% pay cut so that the company could avoid layoffs for the
time being.
Our CEO was a good communicator, he always kept the employees
updated on the struggles, which the business was experiencing with a clear and
frequent communication at team meetings.
Every employee agreed
to this request.
Why did this happen?
Employees felt
involved and knew exactly what was happening. They were not blindsided by the
CEO’s request for the pay cut. They trusted and supported the company.
Chapter 4
Effective communication
definitely – ‘BUILD RELATIONS’
The only way to have a friend is to be one -- RALPH WALDO EMERSON
Relationships are the building blocks for all
community organizing activities. Whether you want to organize a
volleyball game or get rid of unfair housing practices in your town, you will
need lots of good relationships.
Why?
Because the relationships we have with our co-workers, the communities we
serve, and even our adversaries are the means for
achieving our goals.
People
don't work in isolation: we need to be working together!
It is our relationships all added together that is the
foundation of an organized effort for change. We need lots of people to
contribute their ideas, take a stand, and get the work done.
For Example - If you are the official leader or an active citizen without an official title, you will be most effective if you establish
many strong relationships around yourself in the community.

Chapter 5
Relationships
build people – MOTIVATE OTHERS
If anything goes bad, I did it. If anything goes semi-good, then we did it. If anything goes real good, then you did it. That’s all it takes to get people to win football games -- RAUL “BEAR” BRYANT
While leading a
group of people towards success, you must learn how to motivate others. Try
to understand what motivates them, and work on satisfying their requirement.
You
will be on the right track for a positive and enlightening experience for all
involved.
Example –
1. If someone is hungry, they won’t be
able to concentrate on their task. In this case, you will need to make sure that
this person has lunch before he\she begins the task. This will help in the completion of the task in an effective manner.
2. No one likes to feel like their
existence doesn’t matter. Just because the final decision lies with the senior
authority, doesn’t mean that they can’t get some help with important decision
making.
People enjoy contributing and being a part of it. They feel like
they are making a difference. Always keep an open ear and you will be
motivating your team to come up with solutions and creative ideas.
It is not the martinets that make an army work, it is the morale that the leaders put into the men that makes an army work -- HARRY TRUMAN
Chapter 6
Motivation ultimately
leads to Prosperous life – PROSPER AT WORK
It is not enough to be industrious (hardworking); so are the ants. What are you industrious about? -- HENRY DAVID THOREAU
If you truly want to prosper at work, you need to increase your value and in order to do that, you must change your mindset.
People are happier when they are successful at work.
Like achieving
performance goals, getting a promotion or serving customers better, getting
appreciated from seniors or meeting deadlines etc. This drives them to work hard
to excel and achieve their goals.
From understanding
your organisation, knowing your boss well, being professional, reliable,
ambitious and a good communicator, and finally the most important quality,
having a positive attitude is what makes
one successful at the workplace.
Example –When given
an assignment, tell your boss exactly how you plan to approach it and what form
you expect the results to take. Get approval on your plans now so that you
won’t later hear “That's not the way I wanted that done!”
This will help to
balance the work in an effective and efficient manner, it will create a stress-free
environment and increase customer satisfaction which will ultimately hit the
bottom line and increase the credibility of the company.
By working faithfully eight hours a day you may eventually get to be a boss and work twelve hours a day -- ROBERT FROST
Chapter 7
To be happy at home is
the ultimate result of all ambition – PROSPER AT HOME
In a united family, happiness springs of itself -- CHINESE PROVERB
Home is the place where you live and
feel relieved when you walk in through
the door.
Be happier at home by making it a place in
which you can connect with others by simplifying life,
saving money for better future and family planning. Raise happy, healthy
children as they are the life force, wisdom and love of parents.
Happy Home = Happy Life.
Example: Listen! In the evening ask your spouse
to share the day’s experiences with you before you do the same. Give your
undivided attention. Respond to the feelings that are expressed – don’t reject
any of them.
Half of the mistakes made in the
relationship will be yours. Apologize when you make them, but don’t think that
a mere apology ever lets you off the hook. Make a commitment to your partner
not to repeat the mistake and ensure that fulfil what you commit.
Some important activities to do at home:
Communicate your values by deed, not by
laying down the law.
Assign children meaningful household
duties, teach them how to contribute to the upkeep of their home.
Teach them financial responsibility,
make them earn at least a portion of the money they need/ want for special purchases,
activities and family vacations.
These are the sign of good parenting.
This will make your children capable to take the responsibilities of their own
lives and be independent.
Where we love is home – home that our feet may leave, but not our hearts -- OLIVER WENDELL HOLMES, SR.

Summary
of Summary: In our own words
1. Try and find a
positive point in every situation, at the beginning it won’t be easy. However, remember
everything seems difficult when you begin.
Eg:
A child learning to walk.
Keep trying and
one day you will master the art of positive thinking.
Always Remember “The
night is the darkest just before the dawn”
2. Power works in a
cycle, people avoid taking initiative however if they see and believe you have
the right confidence and you know what you are speaking they will start
following you. Act Powerful
3. Communication is the key to success, practice what you want to say. Keep practising until you perfect it. You might fail in the initial attempts however, do not stop. Keep working on it and soon you will realize communicating with people is not that difficult.
4. No matter how good
you are, there is a limit to things that you can do. Everybody has 24 hrs, no one
cannot go beyond that individually.
Now, if you can manage to bring in just one
person with the same dream and attitude you will drastically increase your daily
limit from 24 to 48 hrs. Imagine how powerful you be if you have the right team
with you.
5. Everyone likes to
be with someone who listens and motivates them. However, remember do not become
a garbage bag for them, or else they will keep pouring their trash on you.
Show
them the right way, be a guide and make it very clear that you cannot walk for them. People will
not only love and respect you but also start talking about you to other people.
6. Give and you get!

ReplyDeleteDear Neha,
ReplyDeleteWhen you are in a situation and you come up with this wonderful blog. Really I had a great takeaway from this blog and could relate the real life situations. Being positive doesn't means to let things or situation go or ignore, but it means how you tackle that situation in a calmed and composed way which boosts confidence in you to deal such situations further in your life time. This blog is all about that.
